The author shows North Korea's unchanging strategy toward inside and outside from the years of foundation up to these days. Outside toward Soviet Union, Russia, China and South Korea. The regime's ostensiblly irrational behavior became understandable after finishing the book, which impressed me a lot.
How the regime's perfect control over the people could have been possible for such a long time, what changed and not changed after the big famine of 1990s, the reason of the regime's consistent clinging to nuclear power from 1950's to these days, why it became a poorer country compared to South Korea and remained poor after 1970 (that is, why it failed to be a prosperous industrial country), how the regime's hereditary succession for three generations has been possible, how it's relation with Sovet Union(and Russia) and China has been changed as well as what was the reason etc. is described in a clear and comprehensive manner.
The ungraspable or irrational behavior of the country would be understadable and graspable by a simple extrapolation of the contents of this beautiful book.
Any reader will be impressed by the long list of bibliography, I guess.
