Dr. Sands has been associated with PUST since 2013 where he has served as a professor in the College of Public Health, College of Dentistry, and College of Pharmacy, Division of Medical Sciences. He taught classes in pharmacology and research design and performed needs assessments (health status of the DPRK) in support of the development of a curriculum for the Colleges of Medicine, Public Health and Pharmacy.


Most recently Dr. Sands participated in the medical/dental education program for PUST medical and dental students held in the facilities of the Mongolian National University of Medical Sciences, in Ulaambaatar, Mongolia in November and December 2019.[?]


Dr. Sands is currently working with the PUST Strategic Planning Committee in developing a new strategic plan for the University. In this capacity he is working with the Chief Strategy Officer, Office of the President, Samford University and six members of the PUST administration and faculty.


Most of his adult life Dr. Sands has spent in Asia interspersed by periods of being a faculty member and teaching at the McWhorter School of Pharmacy, Samford University.

He spent 20 years at the Wallace Memorial Baptist Hospital in Pusan, South Korea in addition to
five years teaching and doing research at the Yanbian University Medical College in Yanji, China.
He taught clinical pharmacology, clinical pharmacokinetics, research design and directed the clinical research of graduate students.
Dr. Sands studied the Korean language and culture at Yonsei University in Seoul, Korea.
